EPSRC/PTI software developer

Salary: ca. £27,319 per year (pro rata) & up to 6 months (by 30th June 2011)
With the support of EPSRC through Pathways To Impact (PTI) scheme, we are looking for an experienced C++ or Java programmer to develop a user friendly graphical user interface (GUI) that can be incorporated with our discrete element methods (DEM) code in order to enhance the teaching and uptaking of the fundamental principles of DEM.
The role involves working in a small team to 1) either develop/design a new GUI using C++ or to adapt/redesign our current GUI program in Java; and 2) to integrate with our DEM code.
The successful applicant needs to be a good team player who is able to write robust and reliable code and design user interfaces that are appropriate for undergraduate teaching, and is able to work to agreed deadlines.
You must be eligible to work in UK with a good scientific/engineering degree or equivalent and have proficient programming skills in C++ or Java. Previous experiences in GUI design/development & software development are advantageous, but not essential.
