Innovative Drug Research Center (IDRC)

Innovative Drug Research Center (IDRC) was established in 2011, and is planned to become College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2014. IDRC plans to house up to 20 PIs, 400 graduate students, 400 undergraduate students, as well postdoctoral fellows and staff. IDRC is committed to doing frontier basic as well as applied researches in pharmaceutical sciences. Experts of CSCST attending the first Battery Technology Forum 2012

Introduction: The first Battery Technology Forum was successfully held in Gaoyou, Jiangsu, China on 27th December 2012. Invited by the People’s government of Gaoyou, Jiangsu province, Prof. Guosheng Shao , Dr. Chuang Peng and other 6 delegates from the Electrochemical Energy Storage Discussion  Group of CSCST attended this forum. This  event promoted scientific communications between UK and China.

2012年12月27-28日，受高邮市人民政府邀请，旅英中国学人化学科学与技术学会(CSCST-UK) 电化学储能分会专家团访问高邮市开发区和江苏华富储能新技术股份有限公司。

为 做大做强高邮储能产业，推进产业转型升级，江苏华富储能新技术股份有限公司通过旅英中国学人化学科学与技术学会-电化学储能分会专家高邮行活动，邀请国家 “千人计划”人才、英国萨利大学材料学博士、英国博尔顿大学计算材料学教授、博导邵国胜教授和英国Exeter大学Lecturer彭创博士领衔的8名储能行业知名学者，深入公司进行学术交流。邵国胜教授、彭创博士以及来自埃克塞特大学、剑桥大学、牛津大学、英国创新能源有限公司以及武汉大学等6位专家为华富公司的所有技术人员现场讲学。专家团队就新型锂离子电 池、新型储能电池在可再生能源中的应用、电池技术的发展与产业化、纳米材料在燃料电池中的应用、电化学电池发电性能标准、材料电化学等方面作了精彩的学术 报告。

旅 英专家学者一行还参观了华富公司生产车间、研发中心及开发区电池工业园建设现场。在听取了高邮市经济和社会发展基本情况和特色产业状况介绍后，与会的专家 学者与华富公司技术负责人进行了互动，就新能源领域发展前景、公司现有产品的转型升级、新技术的开发、新产品的孵化和共建“千人研究院”等方面进行了深入 的交谈并签订国家“千人计划”（高邮华富）储能研究院框架协议。

Continue reading »]]> 苏州工业园区吸引海内外英才的知名工程——科技领军人才创业工程自2007年实施以来，至今已累计评选领军人才400多位;其中90%以上的项目进入商业化运营阶段，50%以上的项目获得了风投等外部投资机构投资，其中旭创科技、硅能半导体、云博信息、麦迪斯顿医疗等4家企业销售将首超亿元，为自主品牌企业加速发展奠定了坚实基础。

2012年，苏州工业园区新增入选国家“千人计划”人才32人、总数达92人，其中累计62名国家“千人计划”人才为园区本土推荐入选，占了全市的一半多。新增省双创人才22人、总数达88人；新增姑苏领军人才32人，总数达120人；新引进博士后60余名，在站博士后总数超90人；新增各类人才总数均名列省市第一，园区先后成为国家“海外高层次人才创新创业基地”、“千人计划创投中心”。截至2012年底，园区大专以上人才占就业人口比重达35%，硕士以上高层次人才占比达9%。 

同时，苏州工业园区人才供给保障作用更加有力。园区汇聚和培养人才的载体——独墅湖科教创新区今年迎来建区十周年华诞，目前入驻高等院校总数达23所，在校生规模突破7.5万人，其中IT、装备制造、纳米光电、生物医药、生态环保等专业学生总数占53%。园区与国内43家重点高校合作设立实训基地，集聚各类培训机构44家，开展培训5万余人次，其中产业类人才培训42000余人次；全年举办各类现场招聘活动539场，提供招聘岗位108万个，基本满足园区企业用工需求。此外，园区还致力于打造高端人才首选之地，积极营造适合优秀人才发展的创业环境、商务环境和乐居生活环境。

申报企业（团队）可根据项目情况自行选择申报类别，具体获评类别按最终评审结果为准。

2、领军、领军孵化项目申报企业（团队）注册资本或拟注册资本不低于100万元人民币，申报领军成长型项目的企业（团队）注册资本或拟注册资本不低于500万元人民币；

Lecturer in Chemical Engineering x 3

The Chemical Engineering Department at UCL was established in 1923 and is thus one of the oldest in the UK. Research has always been a major departmental activity, with 75% of staff rated as world leading or of internationally excellent quality in the 2008 UK Research Assessment Exercise.  The persons appointed would be joining an expanding, vigorous and forward looking Department that is committed to the highest standards of teaching and research and whose aim is to develop both significant advances in fundamental knowledge and in pioneering technology impact breakthroughs.

The successful candidates will be expected to complement the research in the department and contribute in the focus areas of advanced design and manufacturing of chemicals and materials and enhanced resource (energy, water, material) efficiency as well as to establish and lead a vigorous externally funded research programme of international standing. 1. Research Associate

Moving from Rensselaer (USA), the group of Professor Marc-Olivier Coppens at the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCL is looking for a skilled and creative postdoctoral researcher with ample experience in porous material synthesis and design, to continue and expand our effort in Nature Inspired Chemical Engineering (NICE), with applications to catalytic and separation processes.

The candidate should be creative and knowledgeable, with an ability to look across conventional disciplinary borders and have at least a PhD degree in chemistry or chemical engineering, with a strong fundamental background and demonstrated experimental skills (design of experiments, synthesis, characterization) preferably related to novel nanoporous materials for catalysis and/or mebrane applications and hybrid materials incluidng enzymes and/or homogeneous catalysts in nanopores.

2. Applications are invited for a research associate position in the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCL. The main role will be to carry out experimental investigations of multiphase flows. This post will be funded by a £5M EPSRC Programme Grant that will harness the synergy between world-leading scientists from four prestigious institutions: Imperial College, Birmingham, Nottingham, and UCL, to create the next generation modelling tools for complex multiphase flows. This will require a programme of focussed, multi-scale experiments on multiphase flows to validate and update numerical codes. The experimental work will involve application of optical diagnostic methods on small and large scale geometries, with an additional aim of developing routes to create novel multiphase structures which can be exploited by our industrial partners. It will be expected that the post holder will interact closely with the numerical component of the Programme, carried out at all the participating universities, in order to validate, and update the numerical tools, and to provide input into the design of experiments.

The successful candidate should hold, or be near completion of a PhD in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a closely related discipline. (S)he should have a strong background in fluid mechanics and multiphase flows, experimental measurements and analysis of data; knowledge and experience of optical flow diagnostics (PIV) is highly desirable, as is the ability to program in MATLAB and other programming languages.

3. A TSB funded project, led by GSK and in collaboration with UCL (Prof. Asterios Gavriilidis), Imperial College, (Prof. Serafim Kalliadasis) and HEL, an equipment manufacturing company, seeks to develop a continuous gas/liquid reaction platform able to produce pharmaceutical materials on the manufacturing-scale. There is the opportunity for a chemical engineer with a PhD in the area of chemical reaction engineering to join the project at UCL. The work will focus on the design, commissioning and performance evaluation of gas/liquid and gas/liquid/solid intensified reactors, with particular focus on the scale-up of these reactors and associated equipment. Applicants must have knowledge and experience in some of the following areas: reaction engineering, multiphase reactors, microreaction technology, multiphase flow.  The post is for two years and is available from 1st November 2012 with a starting salary of £30,122 plus £2,806 London allowance per annum.

Technician positions

The Department of Chemical Engineering is expanding its research related to the design synthesis and characterisation of functional materials, with the focus on applications in energy, environment, health and sustainable chemical synthesis.

To support this effort, we are looking for someone with ample experience in using various (nano-) materials characterisation and chemical analysis tools, including X-ray diffraction (and, preferably, scattering), porosimetry, surface area characterisation, particle size analysis, spectroscopy (FITR, UV/vis, Raman, etc) GC, GC/MS, HPLC, calorimetry and gravimetry. Additional experience in microscopy (optical, SEM, TEM), chemical reactor engineering, catalysis and materials synthesis would be a plus. The department is especially focusing on inorganic and carbon-based maerials as well as composite and hybrid materials (combination of inorganic/organic/biochemical components).

Applicants should have a first degree and MSc in chemistry, chemical engineering or a related field with hands-on experience in materials characterisation techniques and interpretation of the results. The ability to stay current on novel characterisation methods would be an advantage.

    4、对于因时间等客观原因而无法参加各项活动或大赛，但又有意回国创业的海外学人，海外人才网将在获得海外学人许可的前提下，提供常态化的创业对接服务，包括：将其项目定向推荐给海外人才网的合作政府、合作投资公司及合作政府的当地民营企业，以随时为海外学人提供资本及资源的对接；在各项活动之外，根据海外学人的归国时间，单独为海外学人安排赴某地考察、接洽政府或投资人等。

活动待遇：

1、国际旅费补贴：第十五届广州留交会组委会将为符合条件的海外学人提供国际旅费补贴，海外学人需进行旅费补贴的申请。有关补贴的具体标准、申报条件等细则，请见附件3，并请根据附件3中的要求提供申报材料，海外人才网将统一提交至第十五届广州留交会组委会进行整体申报。

2、国内旅费补贴：对于受邀参加“海外学人归国创业江浙考察行”活动的海外学人，将获得由考察地政府提供的一定的国内旅费补贴，补贴标准将参考从考察地前往广州的交通费用而定。对于受邀参加“创新南山”投资对接会活动的海外学人，往返广州及深圳之间的交通将由海外人才网负责。

3、免费食宿接待：在本次系列活动的各项活动期间，海外学人均将享有免费的食宿接待。

报名条件：

1、报名人须为在海外取得硕士以上学历、拥有高新科技成果或现代服务业项目、有志于回国创业且已具备技术和研发团队等基本创业条件的海外学人，包括在读的海外学人；

2、报名项目须具有前瞻性、创新性，具备发展潜力和良好的市场前景。

3、每个项目仅限项目团队中的一人作为代表报名，同一项目不得重复报名。

报名材料：

1、报名资料登记表（请见附件1）；

2、项目登记表（请见附件2）；

3、报名人身份证件扫描件；

4、最高学历证书扫描件；

5、个人头像照片1张（照片大小及格式不限）。

6、为了有利于创投公司及各地政府更好地了解项目情况，从而提高“创新南山”投资对接会、“海外学人归国创业江浙考察行”的入选概率，建议如有以下补充材料可一并提供（下述材料并非强制要求的报名材料，可自愿提交）：完整的项目报告书/商业报告书、主要成果（代表性论著、专利证书、产品证书）、主持（参与）过的主要项目证明、奖励证书、企业证明材料（营业执照、公司业绩和近年财务报表）等。

注：对于海外学人提供的所有材料，海外人才网承诺仅用于活动内部使用，在未经海外学人许可的情况下，海外人才网不会将材料泄露给任何第三方。海外人才网可与海外学人签订合法有效的保密协议。

Further to the discussion about the publication of a conference proceeding at 19th  joint annual conference of CSCST- SCI CS, we are now collecting papers for publication at  The Journal of Chemical Technology  and Biotechnology, published by Wiley, Impact Factor: 2.168. The papers will be published as a Special Issue or an Focus depending on number of qualifying papers, upon the normal peer review process of JCTB.   (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1002/%28ISSN%291097-4660)

If you want to contribute to the possible special issue, please refer to subject and range covered by the journal, prepare your paper with the required format advised in the website, and submit your paper  by email to cscst2012@cscst.org.  The submission deadline is 31 October, 2012.

After receiving your papers, we will send you the confirmation about your contribution immediately after the deadline. We will then forward papers to the editor to assess if the paper satisfies the range of the journal, and notify you the editor’s recommendation in due course.

Continue reading »]]> On 15 September 2012, the CSCST-UK (the Chinese Society of Chemical Science and Technology in the UK) and SCI-CS (the Society of Chemical Industry, Chinese UK Group) convened successfully the 19^th Joint Annual Conference of CSCST-SCI in the vibrant Whiteknights campus of the University of Reading.  This event was also strongly supported by the Department of Chemistry, University of Reading and the Education Section and the Science &Technology Section of the Chinese Embassy in the UK.  It was attended by nearly 150 participants from both academic and industrial institutions in different regions of the UK and China and dedicated to “Innovation in Chemical Science and Technology”.  With the keyword of innovation, the topics of the conference thus emphasized the latest developments and achievements of chemical science and technology in different fields of chemistry.

The opening section was hosted by Dr. Qiang Zeng, the Conference General Chair, and opened by Dr. Zheng Jiang, the President of CSCST-UK.  Prof. Georg Held, the Head of the Department of Chemistry, University of Reading, gave a welcome speech.  On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, Dr. Zhenxing Li introduced the long-term collaborative strategy between the UK and China in science and technology and relevant recent programs in China.  Ms. Joanne Lyall, the Executive Director of SCI presented the background of SCI and addressed the activities of the Chinese UK group.  Ms. Gemma Wood from the Royal Society of Chemistry gave a presentation on the development of the relationship between the RSC and China.  As one of new conference sponsors, Ms. Jianfang Cheng, the Director of the Zhongguancun Science Park London Office introduced the science-business conversion program in the Beijing Zhongguancun Science Park.

The presentation section was led by the plenary lectures delivered by Prof. Zhengxiao Guo from the Department of Chemistry and London Centre for Nanotechnology, University College London entitled “Materials Chemistry for Clean Energy”, by Prof. Howard M. Colquhoun from the Department of Chemistry, University of Reading, presenting “Molecular IT: Reading Polymer Sequence-Information with Molecular Tweezers” and by Dr. Dale A Laidler from AkzoNobel with the talk “Innovative Products for a Sustainable Future”.  The Conference also featured seven keynote lectures by Prof. Yanqiu Zhu (Exeter), Prof. Ian W. Hamley (Reading), Prof. Jian R. Lu (Manchester), Prof. Adam F. Lee (Cardiff), Dr. Tiancun Xiao (Oxford), Prof. Dongsheng Wen (Queen Mary) and Prof. Guangwen Xu (Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences).  In Particular, Prof. Guangwen Xu was the first invited speaker from China in the 19-year history of the Conference.  In addition to the plenary and keynote lectures, 25 abstracts from the attendees were selected for oral presentations and 23 for poster presentations.  For the first time, the speakers presented their contributions in the three parallel sessions accommodated in the special lecture theatres at the Department of Chemistry.

In the closing section, the first Chair of the Chinese Chemical Society-UK Section (CCS-UK), Prof. Dongsheng Wen from the Queen Mary University of London, presented an outlook of a potential collaboration between CCS-UK and CSCST-UK.  Dr. Cigang Xu, the Chair of the SCI Chinese UK group, introduced activities of the group and details of the SCI membership.  Afterwards, he was also honoured to present the awards for the best oral and poster presentations.  On behalf of CSCST-UK, Dr. Zheng Jiang handed in the Certificates of Appreciation to Prof. Frantisek Hartl from the Reading Spectroelectrochemistry laboratory and Ms. Jianfang Cheng from the Zhongguancun Science Park for their gracious support and great contributions as the new sponsors to the 19^th Joint Annual Conference of CSCST-SCI.  CSCST also nominated Prof. Zhengxiao Guo (UCL), Dr. Shengfu Yang (Leicester), Dr. Junwang Tang (UCL), Dr. Nigel S Dong (IEA Coal Institute), Dr. Yunfeng Gu (Cambridge), Mr. Yimin Wu (Oxford), Dr. Jingping Hu (Oxford) and Dr. Qiang Zeng (Reading) as candidates for the new President and Vice-Presidents of CSCST-UK.  The results will be announced on CSCST and CSCST-SCI Conference websites.  Finally, Dr. Zheng Jiang summarized the Conference achievements and acknowledged all contributions from the participants, sponsors and the local organizing committee.  The Conference was closed by Dr. Qiang Zeng.
